More than 30 Vocational Rehabilitation Service direct-service staff recently attended a training on military culture and best practices for serving Alabama National Guard members through the ADRS RAVE (retaining a valued employee) Program. The new training, which focused on the Army and National Guard, was developed by Business Relations Specialist Anna Taylor and Staff Training and Development staffer Nancy Adams. The one-day class is designed to educate rehabilitation counselors, business relations consultants, rehab engineers, and other VR staff on the most-effective way to work with veterans or active military. Topics included an overview of the Alabama Army/Air National Guard, command structure, the difference between the guard and the reserves, suicide prevention, veteran benefits, moral injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
