The Covington County Committee on Employment of Persons with Disabilities (CCCEPD) sponsored a one-day employment training conference for area youth May 4 in Andalusia.

Each year, the conference connects more than 150 high school students with disabilities from 10 area schools with different and exciting employment opportunities to explore within the community.

Former University of Alabama football coach Mike DuBose addressed the students to open the conference. DuBose spoke on the importance of drive and determination in achieving your goals, particularly concerning employment.

Following the keynote address, students attended six individual breakout sessions covering a range of career fields from aircraft technology, sonography, mechanical maintenance, industrial maintenance, nutrition, and aerospace.

With this year’s event taking place on Star Wars Day, the conference was aptly themed “The Work Force Awakens: Employment Edition.”
