This week, Mark Vosel, VR state office administrator, held a Lunch & Learn session at the State Office for Dogs On Call, a therapy dog team organized through Easter Seals to provide assistance and compassion to adults and children.

Dogs On Call trains and certifies therapy dog teams to provide comfort to persons who are at-risk, living with disabilities, suffering trauma or stress, or living in nursing and assisted living communities, hospitals, and rehabilitation and youth detention centers, said Vosel.

The informational lunch session focused on steps to take now to get your pet involved in dog therapy in the future.

Following the lunch and learn, the therapy dogs made a special appearance at a CRS clinic so that the children there could visit with the dogs.

“There are several therapeutic effects of animal companionship – from relieving stress to lowering blood pressure, and elevating mood,” Vosel said. “For rehabilitation professionals who are also dog lovers, there is a great sense of accomplishment and fulfillment in working with a therapy dog team.”
